God Forbid - Earthsblood Music Review
By RipperEagle
Rating: 4.7

Released on February 24th, Earthsblood is the 4th CD for God Forbid on Century Media Records, and their sixth overall. The album sees the band pushing into more experimental territory with some orchestration, but for the most part the band keeps that gut busting metal template at the forefront at all times. Based off of another concept like “Constitution of Treason” was before it, this time around the band tells a story of a man struggling to become the ruler of his land, ultimately failing to do such and his demise that follows. This CD came with a bonus disc of a 13-song concert at the Starland Ballroom in their home of New Jersey: this is the audio version of the DVD “Beyond the Scars of Glory and Progression.”

1. The Discovery (N/A)
-Song is a 1:44 instrumental with an organ, piano, and band instruments.
2. The Rain (5)
-Nothing unlike anything you have heard before: good singing from Dallas Coyle.
3. Empire of the Gun (5)
-Has intriguing intro and odd deep singing from Byron Davis, the lead singer. A lot of the guitar riffs are very Killswitch Engage like.
4. War of Attrition (5)
-Consistent phrase of the song…bring it on!
5. The New Clear (4)
-Most intriguing intro I have ever heard from the band: eventually breaks out.
6. Shallow (4)
-Straight forward power house with two guest guitar solos to end it on.
7. Walk Alone (5)
-Very much like “The Lonely Dead” except without the outro.
8. Bat The Angels (5)
-Chorus very similar to one from the title track on prior release.
9. Earthsblood (5)
-Absolute longest song ever done by the band (9:04): experimenting at its best.
10. Gaia (The Vultures) (5)
-Very strong ending piece to the album: ends with the final minute being like the first minute of “Judge the Blood” and “Crucify Your Beliefs”.
